Robert Earl Host, 90, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Northwoods Village. He was born Aug. 21, 1922, to Augustus O. and Bertha A. (McKay) Host. On Sept. 22, 1942, he married Retta M. Host in Kokomo, and she preceded him in death Aug. 26, 2008.
He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1940 and went on to serve his country during World War II with the 9th Air Force. He attained the rank of staff sergeant as a turret gunner. After the war, he worked as a mold maker for Stellite for 28 years and retired from Delco after 19 years of service. He enjoyed building model engines, airplanes and tools, and belonged to the Blue Angels Flying Club.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Lee (Paula E.) Host; grandchildren, Ellen (Steven) Phipps, Sharpsville, David (Peggy) Host, Sharpsville, and Amy (Scott) Logan, Kokomo; great-grandchildren, Shannon (Travis) Young, New London, Samantha (Travis) Harding, Windfall, Christopher Host, Logansport, Derek Host, Walton, Peyton Jansik, Sharpsville, Wyatt Host, Sharpsville, Bryce Logan, and Lea Logan, both of Kokomo; great-great-grandchildren, Kaytlyn Renae Young, New London, Nora Anne Young, New London, Elijah Joe Harding, Windfall, and Reed Michael Harding, Windfall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, three brothers, and one great-grandson.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Bill Salsberry officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
