Richard D. Dunlap passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Shell Point Pavilion in Fort Myers, Fla.
Dick was born on June 21, 1930, in New London, to the late S. Charles Dunlap, and Opal Dunlap. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeanne; three brothers, Robert, (Greta) John, (Eva, deceased) and Larry Dunlap; sons, Rick Dunlap (Diana), Kerry Dunlap (Judy), and Brett Dunlap; daughters, Kristy Dunlap, Linda Gerow, Becky Dunlap, MaryAnn Jackson, (Jamie Beiswanger), and Nancy Jackson Goodson (Fallon). Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Eric and Scott Dunlap, Lori Dunlap Kunath (Hank), Samantha Dunlap, Jennifer Dunlap Morris (Kyle), Justin Dunlap, Loyd Dunlap (deceased), Hailey and Hannah Beiswanger; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Austin, and Wesley Kunath, and Evan Morris.
Dick graduated in the last high school graduating class of Russiaville High School in 1949. He served apprenticeships in three trades, tool and die maker, mold maker, and model maker. These skills served him well as he worked for Delco Electronics for 34 years many of them as a supervisor in the Engineering Model Shop.
His special interests included gardening, fishing, playing golf, and basketball. Being a “Hoosier,” Dick loved college basketball, especially Indiana and Purdue.
He chose early on to align his priorities with God’s. His deep and abiding faith defined him. Dick had the gift of wisdom from his heavenly father, and he shared this as a family man and friend. He served as church elder in Kokomo and in Fort Myers.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Feb. 18, at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Private burial will be in New London Cemetery. The family will receive friends to call from 9:30 a.m. until service time before the service.
