Lillard L. “Brownie” Brown, 73, Kokomo, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his home. He was born April 8, 1939, in Stanton, Ky., to the late Elmer I. Brown and Stella Mae (Rogers) Bingaman. On August 17, 1970, in Kokomo, he married Ollie “Jean” England, who survives.
Brownie worked for Continental Steel for 26 years until its closing in 1986. He then went to work for Cole Hardwood in Logansport, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Walton. Brownie enjoyed turkey shooting, collecting guns and knives, antique car shows, and watching wrestling on TV.
He is survived by his wife Ollie “Jean” Brown; together they raised seven children in their home, Juanita Brown, Kokomo, Lavina (Art) Shewbridge, Bradenton, Fla., Robert Brown, Kokomo, Michael Hinkle, Kokomo, Linda (Brian) Bennett, Logansport, Lillard (Hollie) Brown Jr., Logansport, and Mary Brown, Logansport; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Charlotte) Bingaman, Logansport, and Wilbur (Melinda) Bingaman, Logansport; one step-brother, Fred Elliott; three sisters, Christine (John) Spencer, Logansport, Vina (Michael) Hedrick, Greentown, and Ann Marshall, Amarillo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother.
Funeral Services will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson St., with Dan Willis officiating. Burial will take place at a later time in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Brownie’s name to Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home. Messages of condolence may be submitted online at shirleyandstout.com.
