Sondy Chism, 63, Kokomo, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at her residence. Born Oct. 31, 1946, Sondy was the daughter of Lillie (Livingston) Gordon and John Gordon.
Sondy worked in the food service industry and bar business for more than 40 years.
Sondy was much more than a bar owner, she was an intricate part of the Kokomo community. As owner of Sondy’s Sycamore Grill across from the Courthouse, Sondy helped raise funds for several different area charities. She always greeted her customers with a smile and never hesitated to help someone in need. She owned the bar from November 2000 to July 3, 2009.
She also worked at DuPont Photomask in Kokomo for 11 years.
Sondy enjoyed playing slot machines and taking trips to Las Vegas, Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City and Shelbyville Live.
Surviving are a brother, Jerry and Mary Gordon, Silver Street, S.C.; two sisters, Cathy and Gaston Floyd, Newberry, S.C., and Cindy Ramirez, Pelcer, S.C.; two sons, Scott Chism and Carla, and Chris and Ruth Chism; grandchildren, John Chism and Shelby Chism, both of Kokomo, and Christopher Chism, Isaac Chism and Clayton Chism, all of Tampa, Fla.
Her parents preceded her in death.
The family wanted to thank Dr. Melanie Bozard, and the oncology department at Howard Regional Systems especially Dr. Naftali Bechar, and VNS Hospice.
They also wanted to thank her many special friends for all the wonderful cards and support and the support system from close friends and family during her bought with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Joyce Brooks officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the VNS (Visiting Nurse Services).
