Josephine Helm, 81, Kokomo, passed away after a brief illness, on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, Round Rock, Texas, surrounded by her family. She had been visiting her daughter in Austin, Texas, when she became ill, and her family stayed with her around the clock the entire time. She was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Hoopeston, Ill., to Joseph and Laura (Allen) Moffatt. On June 26, 1954, in Fortville, she married Charles Helm, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 2002.

She graduated from Butler High School in 1947 and later worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a unit secretary. She was a well-loved and cherished mother and grandmother. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, going to casinos, and visiting with her longtime friends, Dick and Pinkie McCroskey and neighbors Dave and Lucy Wilhoite.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Pair, Austin, Texas; son-in-law, Mike McCroskey, Kokomo; grandchildren Kyle McCroskey and his wife Carrie, Chicago, Jenna McCroskey, Washington D.C., and Elizabeth Pair and Emily Pair, Austin, Texas; brother Charles Moffatt, Kokomo; and her dog, Sadie.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Laura McCroskey.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
