Esther E. Shelley, 92, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, in Century Villa Healthcare, Greentown. She was born in Swayzee on Dec. 9, 1920, to the late Oscar L. and Minnie B. (Clanin) Gentis. Esther married Julius Shelley on March 24, 1946, and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2005.
Esther was a former resident of Fort Wayne, and lived there for many years. She retired as a waitress and cook from Fort Wayne Country Club in 1983 after 24 years of service. Esther was a member of First Baptist Church of Russiaville and, before her illness, enjoyed gardening and spending time with her dogs.
Survivors include her daughter, Joellen (William) Hart, Kokomo; grandsons, Michael W. (Megan Mahoney) Hart, Carmel, and Matthew C. Hart, Minot Air Force Base, N.D.; and sister, Joan Spurgeon, Churubusco.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Minnie Gentis; husband, Julius Shelley; brothers, Von, Don, and Walter Gentis; and sister, Mable Atkins.
Private services were held.
Memorial donations may be made to the Missions Department at First Baptist Church, 260 W. Main Street, Russiaville, IN 46979.
Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, handled arrangements.
