Russell L. Day

Sept. 26, 1949 - Dec. 29, 2012

Russell L. Day, 63, Kokomo, passed away at 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his residence. Born Sept. 26, 1949, in Kokomo, he is the son of the late Roscoe Day and Lucille (Sapp) Day. He is a 1968 graduate of Kokomo High School. He worked 30 years at the Chrysler Transmission Plant before retiring in 1999. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 685. He was a devoted Kokomo Wildkat fan for 30 years, spent a lot of time at the Northside Youth Baseball League, and was a Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed genealogy and working on cars. He was a wonderful grandfather who loved his grandchildren to the moon and back.

Survivors include one daughter, Kelly (Christopher) McKoon, Kokomo; one son, Michael Day, Kokomo; his children’s mother, Diana L. Day, Kokomo; two brothers, Raymond (Ramona) Day and John Day, both of Kokomo; two sisters Neva Williams and Wanda (Frank) Schmidlin, all of Kokomo. There are also four grandchildren, Courtney, Katelyn, Johnathon and Brooke McKoon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest Day and Robert Day; two sisters, Mary Smith and Delores Roe; and a few nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo. The Rev. Charles Armstrong will officiate, and burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
