Medford D. Harmon, 79, formerly of Cutler, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette. He had been a patient there for the past five days, and a resident at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, for the past seven years. He was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Frankfort, to the late Arthur and Ola Taylor Harmon. He married Phylis Reef in Cutler on July 3, 1955, and she survives and lives in Delphi. They were divorced.
He was a 1952 graduate of Cutler High School and attended Ivy Tech. He worked at the former SAYCO in Flora for three years, and then was employed at the former Gerber-Globe Valve Corp. in Delphi, working there for 30 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Cutler Presbyterian Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War, stationed in Texas. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Democrat Township Fire Department for 25 years. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and listening to country music. He was very family-oriented and loved being around his daughters and all of his grandchildren.
Surviving are his daughters, Debra Kay and Cloyed Moore, Cutler, Cheri and Don Roberson, Cutler, and Cindy and Wayne Greir, Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Marthabelle Michael Radnor; and four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepgrandson, Tom Roberson.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Baker-Abbott Funeral Home, Flora. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Christine “Granny” “Mother Goose” Cornelia Ligon, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. She was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Baron Plain, Tenn., the daughter of the late Tommy and Laura (Turner) King. On July 21, 1934, Christine married Timothy Calvin Ligon Jr. and they were happily married until his passing on Nov. 3, 1956.
