Robert C. and Joyce J. Bills

Robert C. “Bob” Bills, 88, and his wife, Joyce J. Bills, 85, Tipton, both passed away as a result of an auto accident that occurred on Dec. 5, 2012. Robert was born on Aug. 24, 1924, to Clemmerd and Margaret (Tarkington) Bills. He was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School and served overseas for the U.S. Army for three-and-a-half years.

Joyce J. Shadday was born on June 10, 1927, to Anthony and Anna (VanHorn) Shadday. She was a 1945 graduate of Tipton High School. Robert and Joyce were married on Nov. 15, 1946, in Anderson.

He was a past employee at Delco Remy, Ellison Tractor Sales, Atlanta Crop Service and Pioneer. Joyce had previously worked for Tipton Telephone Co., Dr. Chub Smith and Pioneer. They were both longtime members of West Street Christian Church and the Lions Club, both of Tipton.

Survivors include their three sons, Ronald Lee and wife Suzette Bills, Potomac, Ill., Mark Allan and wife Joyce Bills, Tipton, Lawrence “Larry” and wife LaVella Bills, Tipton; granddaughters, Laura (Matt) Terry, Launa Bills, Christina Bills, all of Tipton; and a grandson, Matt Bills, Greenville, S.C. Joyce’s brother, Gene, and wife Verna Shadday, and a sister-in-law, Marlene Shadday, also survive.

They both were preceded in death by a son, Michael Kent Bills, along with their parents. Robert was preceded by siblings Eugene Deloss Bills and Elmer Lee Bills. Joyce was preceded by a brother, Dick Shadday.

Calling is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, 726 E. North St., Tipton, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West St., Tipton, with the Rev. Linda McKeirnan-Allen officiating. Interment will take place in Tipton’s Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of floral contributions, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Tipton Lions Club or West Street Christian Church. Online condolences are available at porterfh.com.
