Verlin A. “Buddy” Oldfather, 74, Oaklandon, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Kokomo, the son of Verlin F. and Thelma Wanetta (Flemming) Oldfather. On Oct. 26, 1973, in Miami, he married Carolyn A. (Clawson) Oldfather, who survives.
Buddy attended Clay Township High School and served in the Indiana National Guard. He retired in 2004 from the Indiana Department of Public Works with more than 31 years of service. He enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, Oaklandon; two sisters, Debra Neuhauser, Kokomo, and Cindy (Jack) Catron, Russiaville; two brothers, Brad Oldfather, Miami, and Chad (Laura) Oldfather, Texas; 35 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judy McConnell, Mark and Amy McConnell and their son Carter, whom he loved as family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Indianapolis services are 7 p.m. Friday at Shirley Brothers Mortuary, Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 N. Allisonville Road, Fishers, with the Rev. Fr. William Marks officiating. Indianapolis visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Kokomo services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Larry Zehring officiating. Kokomo visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow the Kokomo service in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
