Peggy A. Simpson

Peggy A. Simpson, 83, Kokomo, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Kokomo, to Glenn and Hazel (Hutson) Goldsberry Hockett. Peggy married Lee R. Simpson on Jan. 22, 1956, and he passed away Jan. 21, 1997.

Peggy was a 1946 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired as secretary for the Howard County Sheriff Department after 18 years. Peggy and Lee were co-managers of the Izaak Walton League, and she also was the secretary at Riley School in Kokomo. She was a State Life member of PTA and past president of the Howard County Council of PTA, was a member of the Kokomo Senior Citizens, was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Elks #190, a member of the Eagles and was a charter member of Kokomo Alzheimer’s Association. She loved reading, family time, doing puzzles, ceramics, sewing and baking cookies and pumpkin pies.

Survivors include her children, Roger Simpson, Linton, Terri (Charles) Love, Kokomo, Robert Rinearson, Odessa, Texas, Gerry (Kathy) Simpson, Sharpsville, Michael (Christine) Simpson, Kokomo, and Sue Scalf, Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Hazel Goldsberry; husband Lee R. Simpson; son Billie G. Harrison; grandson Travis R. Simpson; brother Robert Goldsberry; sister-in-law Mary Ann Goldsberry; and stepfather Arlie Hockett.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Terry Russell officiating. Burial will follow in North Union Cemetery, Kokomo. Friends are invited to call from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service Sunday.

Peggy’s wishes are that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Travis R. Simpson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Online condolences can be made at www.stoutandson.com. Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville, assisted the family with the arrangements.
