William “Honey” L. Sears, 90, Sharpsville, died at 5:24 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at North Woods Village in Kokomo. He was born in Barren County, Ky., to Jefferson T. and Zula V. (Hawks) Sears. On Dec. 29, 1939, he married Opal I. (Petty) Sears, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
He graduated from Allen County Schools in Kentucky. He retired from Delco Electronics after 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Manilla during the war. He was a member of the American Legion and New Hope Baptist Church in Kentucky. He and his wife owned R-T Pizza (Mom and Pops) for 17 years. He spent a lot of time at Mississinewa and Kentucky Lakes, known as two-pound crappie. He enjoyed yard and garden work. He was a quiet man who loved his family.
He is survived by three children, Edna Mae (Lanny) Sweares, Kokomo, William O’Dell (Shirley) Sears, Kokomo, and Johnnie Dale (Brenda) Sears, Sharpsville; two sisters, Dorothy Porter, Marion, and Ann Maish, Miami; grandchildren, Christina (Carl) Sweares, Lanny Lee (Staci) Sweares Jr., Serena (Wade) Reed, Pam (David) Reed, Mike (Denise) Sears, Kurt Sweares, Richard (Kristin) Sears, Alisha (Zachary) Kindler and Kira (Michael) Zweifelhofer; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilmer; and one sister, Wallace.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Boyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Church St., Sharpsville, with the Rev. Larry Zehring officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A graveside service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, Ky.
