RUTH ELLEN NUTTER CHERRY

Feb. 13, 1924 - Oct. 3, 2012

Ruth Ellen Nutter Cherry, 88, formerly of Kokomo, passed away at 4:23 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla. Ruth was born on Feb. 13, 1924, to Harry V. Nutter and Clemma Mae Woodruff in Indianapolis. When she was very young, they moved to Kokomo. On Nov. 6, 1942, Ruth married Howard Cherry. They lived in Kokomo for 53 years before moving to Haines City, Fla.

Ruth worked at Montgomery Ward, Easterday and Easterday Accounting Firm, and Accurate Parts Inc. She retired from Accurate Parts after 25 years.

As a child, Ruth was in a band with her sister, Tina, and brother, Bob, known as “Kokomo Hot Shots.” They were musically inclined and entertained many people. Each morning before school they broadcast from a local radio station. On Saturday mornings, they broadcast from an Indianapolis and Chicago radio station. Their love was music and playing for fairs, parties and clubs. Ruth also loved to dance and entertain friends.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Joyce Dost, from Lafayette; granddaughter, Laura Sheppard (husband Michael Reggie), from Rockford, Ill.; grandson, Steve Dost (wife, Patty), from Lafayette; two great-grandsons, Michael Sheppard II and Matthew Dost; one great-granddaughter, Shalina Gramman; and two great-great-grandsons, Ja’Vae Sheppard and Tyler Ladalski; her sister, Tina Schmidlin (husband Henry), North Carolina; and brother, Harry Nutter, Richmond. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her friend and companion, Mack McCormick.

She was preceded in death by husband, Howard Cherry, son-in-law Richard Dost, and great-grandson Gregory Dost.

Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo, with Pastor William Allison and Pastor Merle Wenger officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel.
