Harry Robert Nutter

May 28, 1928 - Nov. 17, 2012

Harry Robert Nutter, 84, Richmond, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Arbor Trace Exceptional Senior Living. He was born May 28, 1928, in Howard County, to Harry V. and Clemma Mae Woodruff Nutter. He was a 1946 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended Ball State University.

Harry was a food service representative of Squeri Food Service. He moved to Richmond in 1959, from Vandalia, Ohio. Harry was the founder and owner of Central Coffee Service, which started in 1959 and closed in 1975. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, having served on the vestry, and a life member of the Richmond Elks Lodge 649. He enjoyed playing golf, using his computer, creating videos for his family and traveling — especially his many trips to Las Vegas. Harry was a skilled craftsman who was accomplished at designing and building projects.  

Survivors include his daughter, Teresa “Terry” (Skip) Runnels, Richmond; four grandchildren, Casey Runnels, New Albany, Jessica Runnels, Richmond, Carl Runnels, Chicago, and Brandon Nutter, California; sister, Tina Schmidlin, South Carolina; and nieces, nephews and many friends, including the customers he served for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. Chism Nutter, who died April 15, 1998; son, Robert Michael “Mike” Nutter; and sister, Ruth Cherry.  

Visitation for Harry will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 E. Main St., Richmond, with Pastor John R. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
