Norma J. Largent Noland

Norma J. Largent Noland, 86, passed peacefully away at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at North Woods Village. She was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Kokomo, to the late Bert and Katherine (Barnes) Largent. On Nov. 1, 1946, she married Edward Noland at Southside Christian Church, and he preceded her in death in October 1988.

She was a proud 1944 graduate of Kokomo High School and was co-chairman of their class reunions. In 1944, she began working for Globe American and stayed until its closing. In 1960, she began her 37-year career as the finance director at the Kokomo Y.M.C.A. After her retirement, she enjoyed working for Dr. James Brown.

She was a member of Northview Christian Church, Kokomo, where she served in many capacities. Norma was a 60-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she has held local and state offices. She was also a member of Harrison Stars and the Kokomo Country Club. She was a founding member of the former Haworth Booster Club, where she met and kept many friendships. Norma never met a stranger and lived life to its fullest. After a fall, when she had to live at the “facility,” she made the best of it and became president of the resident association.

Surviving are son, Greg and Susan Noland, Bedford, Texas; grandson, Alex Noland, Texas; twin great-grandsons, Avery and Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Zoe; sister, Barbara Geiger, Kokomo; sister-n-law, Florence Largent, Florida; brother-in-law, Carl Cox, Illinois; special nephews, Father Jeffery Largent, South Bend, Mike (Terri) Besser, and Ron Kirkpatrick; special niece, Terri Kay Nielander, Kokomo; also surviving are countless friends.

Her brother, Arthur Largent, passed away one day after Norma on Dec. 17 in Naples, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Betty Largent and Delores Cox.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Northview Christian Church, 2059 N 100 East, with the Rev. Chuck Armstrong and Father Jeffery Largent officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St.
