Marianne Rody

Aug. 11, 1924 - March 13, 2013

Marianne Rody, 88, Peru, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at North Woods Village, Kokomo. She was born Aug. 11, 1924 in Peru, the daughter of Glen and Agnes Stockdale Thoennes.  Marianne married Joseph V. Rody May 7, 1947 at St. Charles Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2002.

Marianne was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson Township High School and a 1943 graduate of Indiana Business College. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kokomo, and was in the choir at St. Charles Catholic Church, Peru. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, the St. Charles Catholic School Parent Association and a board member of Peru Civic Center.  

She was employed at the Gas Company of Peru from 1943 to 1947 and at the Peru Community Schools as a teacher’s aide and reading tutor for South Peru School from 1973 to 1981. Marianne also volunteered at the American Red Cross.

Marianne enjoyed caring for her family and friends, attending music concerts, volunteering for church and community activities, gardening, reading, playing cards and croquet, traveling and Notre Dame football. She instilled the value of education in her family members and all the children she treasured tutoring at school.

Surviving are her sons, Eric Rody and wife Mary Anne Sloan, Lafayette, and Thomas Rody and wife Deborah, Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, JoAnne Rody Werling, Kokomo; grandchildren, Leigh Werling, Huntington, Ryan Rody, Indianapolis, and Emma Sloan, Lafayette; great-grandchildren, Ebonie Werling, Kokomo, and Jamall Werling, Aurora, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Glen Thoennes; her husband, Joseph V. Rody; and a granddaughter, Christine Rody.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. Fifth St., Peru, with the Rev. Paul Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Charles Catholic Church, Kokomo Park Band, Kokomo Community Concerts or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Her family wishes to thank the staffs of North Woods Village, Reflections Memory Care at the Wellington and North Wood Commons for all the loving care Mrs. Rody received.
