Joann Lois (Walkenhorst) Williams, 83, Kokomo, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family at 6:20 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Fairmont Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Earl and Anna (Scott) Walkenhorst. Joann married Leon T. Williams in 1954. They later divorced. Mr. Williams passed away in 2000.
Joann graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Mo., with the class of 1947. When moving to Kokomo, she began working for General Motors on the assembly line. She worked for 30 years until retiring in 1995. Joann enjoyed painting, skiing, fly fishing with her parents, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was member of the Kokomo Art Association.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all who helped take special care of Joann until she was under the care of Golden Living. The family also wishes to say thank you to the wonderful staff at Golden Living for their loving care to Joann.
Surviving family are son, Scott (Jackie) Williams, Kokomo; granddaughter, Ashleigh Williams; son, Mike Williams, Kokomo; granddaughters, Lindsay Williams, Indianapolis, and Jessica Williams, Kokomo; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Williams, Kokomo; and cousin, Doris (Bill) Skinner, Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Virgil Walkenhorst.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo, with Pastor Ken Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel.
Memorial contributions in Joann’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Kokomo Art Association. Envelopes will be provided at the mortuary. Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., is in charge of arrangements.
