Bettie L. (Hamm) Taylor, 80, Kokomo, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at North Woods Village. She was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Glade Springs, Va., the daughter of Columbus Arthur and Gertie (Hampton) Hamm. On June 9, 1953, in Chilhowie, Va., she married Cecil Taylor, who survives.
Bettie was a member of Crossroads Community Church for more than 50 years. She had been at North Woods Village since 2007. They treated her like gold. She loved the Lord, her family, cooking, her flowers and taking care of others. She was the Honorary Queen of the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk for three years.
The family would like to thank North Woods Village for all of the hard work and love they showed Bettie. They were always there and available, especially in the last days.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil, Kokomo; children, Janet (Roger) Kendall, Russiaville, Mike (Bethany) Taylor, Tipton, Jeff (Jennifer) Taylor, Monon and Larry (Cyndy) Taylor, Kokomo; grandchildren, Chad (Andrea) Collins, Tammy (Adam) Craig, Nicole (BJ) Dunham, Alisha (Trenton) Casler, Marci (Brian) Strebin, Jake Taylor, Cody (Laura) Taylor, Logan (fiancé Ashley Laird) Taylor, Josh (Anna Burger) Taylor, Harley (Josh Bryant) Taylor; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ethan and Elijah Collins, Cora Craig, Alex Dunham, Tate and Riley Strebin, Mayla Craig, Hailey and Derek Moon; siblings, Mary Alice Jackson, Kokomo, Ruby Sparks, Chilhowie, Va., and Elizabeth Hamm, Marion, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crossroads Community Church located at the corner of Ind. 26 and U.S. 31, with Rev. Jeff Harlow officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd.
