Freda June (O’Malley) Grimes took her first breath in heaven at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children and grandchildren. Freda was born July 4, 1925, to Patrick and Ethel (Stingleman) O’Malley. She attended the Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis where she met the love of her life, William E. Grimes, who survives. They were married June 28, 1947, at Beamer United Methodist Church.
Freda retired from General Motors in 1978 after 33 years of service. She then began her hobbies of ceramics and shopping. Her biggest passion was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed talking to all of her friends on the Video Sorenson. Freda was a retired member of UAW Local 292 and the Kokomo Deaf Club.
Survivors are four children, Patricia Lindsay, Deborah (Bob) Hill, Daniel Grimes, and James Grimes; 10 grandchildren, Heather Vincent, Bridget (Scott) Swing, Rob (Azeneth) Dockemeyer, Jason (Jessica) Hill, Jared Alexander, Hillary (Jarred) Summers, Chris (Kayla) Hill, Angelica Grimes, Mariah Grimes and Eli Grimes; 12 great-grandchildren, Blake, Kayley, Kaitlyn, A.J., Isabella, Ashley, Gabriella, Landon, Alton, Canton, Alyssa, Maura and a boy due in June.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings, Ida, Pearl, Clifford and James.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, with Pastors Chuck Griffith and Bill Carmichael officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
