Robert Lee Summers

June 13, 1935 - March 8, 2013

— Robert Lee Summers, 77, Windfall, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home in Windfall. Robert was born June 13, 1935, to Everett Summers and Orpha P. (Bannon) Summers, who both preceded him in death. On Nov. 2, 1957, he married Dorothy M. (Raulston) Summers who preceded him in death Aug. 23, 2006. On April 16, 2011, he married Betty J. (Wood) Summers, who survives.

He graduated from Windfall High School in 1953. Bob then enlisted in United States Air Force Feb. 8, 1954, retiring as senior master sergeant Aug. 31, 1974, after serving more than 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed by Empire Gas, Shell Knob, Mo. Upon moving back to Windfall, he worked at Stokely Van Camp, Fettigs Canning Co., Red Gold, Kokomo Sanitary Pottery, Carnation, and Pioneer in Tipton, where he worked through December 2012.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping. Bob was also declared an honorary Girl Scout during his daughters’ Girl Scout years. Bob also enjoyed building beautiful wood furniture and canoes.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by five children, Robin (Randall) Rhoades, Windfall, Roxana Summers, Windfall, Robert L. (Cindy) Summers, Kokomo, Douglas Summers, Tipton, Denise Bloodgood, Windfall; eight stepchildren, Joni (Mark) Ellis, Tipton, Brenda (Butch) McDowell, Deanna Pore, Mary (Ty) Toki, Chrissy (Frank) Wood, Kim (Teresa) Owen, Dale (Kathy) Graves, Rick (Marcie) Whitesell. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Christina (Andy) Wyrick, Virginia (Anthony) Byrd, Samantha (Steve) Halderman, Scott (Nancy) Rhoades, Cassidy Summers, Steven Summers, Daneul Summers, Angela Bloodgood, Kylie Ellis, Ryan Durr, Patrick Durr, along with 23 stepgrandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Sandra (Larry) Lefebvre, Kokomo, Roberta (Roy) Sprinkle, Peru, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy May (Raulston) Summers; two brothers, Charles and Boyd Summers; and a sister, Imogene.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Windfall United Methodist Church, 201 S. Independence St., in Windfall. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Windfall United Methodist Church, with Pastor Chris Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Windfall’s Brookside Cemetery.
