Joyce Earlene Miller, 70, Kokomo, died at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital after an extended illness. She was born March 31, 1942, in Marion, the daughter of Lester Earl and Irene Edna (Peters) Duncan. On March 26, 1967, in Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Kokomo, she married, Gene R. Miller, who survives.
Joyce was a 1960 graduate of Swayzee High School and a graduate of Porter Business College. She worked at P.R. Mallory in Indianapolis, Biddinger & Johnson Law Firm in Marion, and for Chrysler and Delco Radio in Kokomo prior to becoming a full-time homemaker.
Joyce was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and had served for 12 years on the Western School Board. She enjoyed quilting, refunding, playing slot machines, watching reality shows, reading, bowling, making Christmas candy and going on cruises. She had a flair for decorating and enjoyed everything Christmas, including adding to her collection of antique Santas. Most of all she loved time spent with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 45 years, Gene Miller, are two daughters, Suzanne Marie Dunkin and her husband, Mark, Kokomo, and Charlotte Irene Isley and her husband, Bradley, Noblesville; four grandchildren, Gabrielle, Kendall, Cora and Selia Dunkin; a sister, Karen Sue Sample and husband Alan; two brothers, Lester Earl Duncan Jr. and wife Loretta, and David Edwin Duncan and wife Jill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Vincent Bart Miller; and one brother, Kevin Douglas Duncan.
Funeral services celebrating Joyce’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd., with Pastors William Allison and Barry Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
