Devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Deloris Ann Renbarger, 85, Converse, passed away at 3:12 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her home surrounded by family members. Deloris was born Nov. 9, 1927, on a farm in Jackson Township, Howard County, and was the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Yoars) Powell. On April 3, 1949, she married Merril Renbarger at Converse Church of Christ. Merril preceded her in death on June 25, 2009, after celebrating 60 years of marriage.
Deloris, a lifetime resident of eastern Howard County, graduated from Jackson High School in 1945. She was a farm girl at heart, growing up on her family farm, then later joining her husband, working side by side, tending livestock and working the ground. Work was her passion. Deloris took great pride in doing her best and instilling that work ethic in her children. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and listening to stories about them. Deloris was proud of the fact that all eight of her grandchildren graduated from college.
She also enjoyed keeping busy by refinishing antique furniture for herself and her family along with yard work and caring for flowers. Deloris was also an avid gardener and generously canned vegetables for her children and grandchildren. Keeping her grandchildren supplied with home-baked cookies was one of her favorite hobbies. Deloris was a member of Amboy Friends Church.
She is survived by daughter, JoAnna and husband Brad Stackhouse, Plymouth; sons, Brian and wife Patty Renbarger, Greentown, and Galen and wife Ann Renbarger, Converse; grandchildren, Kyle and wife Rachael Stackhouse, Plymouth, Kent Stackhouse, Washington, D.C., Troy and wife Stacia Renbarger, Warsaw, Ty Renbarger, Detroit, Mich., Bryson and wife Tara Renbarger, Converse, Ashley Renbarger, Indianapolis, Amanda Renbarger, Indianapolis, Brock Renbarger, Dubuque, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Pierce and Dean Renbarger, Warsaw, Ava, Ivy, Emry and Onya Stackhouse, Plymouth, and Baer Renbarger, Converse; a sister, Eloise (Powell) Newhouse; a sister-in-law, Bernice Powell.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Gerald Powell, Lee Powell, Floyd Powell and Dale Powell.
A service celebrating the life of Deloris Ann Renbarger will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Amboy Friends Church, with Pastor Dwight Elliott officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. Family and friends will gather from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Amboy Friends Church and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Memorial gifts may be made through the funeral home to Amboy Friends Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy.
