Dr. Richard Logan Hoover

Oct. 21, 1932 - Jan. 22, 2013

Dr. Richard Logan Hoover passed to his heavenly home Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, after complications from an acute episode of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born Oct. 21, 1932, to Charles O. and Dorotha Hoover, Kokomo. In 1955, he married Dorothy Mae Conwell, who survives in Kokomo.  

Dr. Hoover is survived by two daughters, Kelly (Jon) Ottinger, Middlebury, and Kristi (Gavin) Brown, Traverse City, Mich. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Abby (Aaron) Judson, Muncie, Casey Ottinger, New York City, Charlie Ottinger, Muncie, and Christian, Ava and Sophie Brown, Traverse City, Mich.

A graduate of Kokomo High School in 1950, he graduated from Indiana University in 1954 and then earned his DDS from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1957. While a student at I.U., he was a member of the Marching 100, Delta Tau Delta social fraternity and Psi Omega dental fraternity.

A captain of the U.S. Air Force, he was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kan., after which he served for seven years in the Reserves. He enjoyed a thriving dental practice in Kokomo from 1960 until his retirement in 1998, partnering with Drs. Richard Michener and Harold King. He was a member of the American, Indiana, and Wabash Valley Dental Associations.

During his years in Kokomo, he was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church and an avid fisherman and golfer. He enjoyed yard work, numerous other outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, and travel. Upon retirement, he moved to Cape Coral, Fla. There he was a member of Pine Island United Methodist Church and the SARPA group of retired medical professionals. He delivered Meals on Wheels and dearly enjoyed golf and fishing opportunities afforded by the warm weather. During retirement summers, he returned to the family lake cottage at Dewart Lake, Syracuse.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Main Street United Methodist Church, 830 S. Main St. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road.  

Memorial donations may be designated to either Main Street United Methodist Church or for pulmonary fibrosis research. Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.sunsetmemorygarden.com.

    Denver R. Walker, 61, Kokomo, formerly of Ridge Farm, Ill., passed away at 6:38 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Century Villa Health Care. He was born Nov. 1, 1951, in Danville, Ill., the son of Denver Ralph and Sarah (Walthall) Walker. On June 7, 1997, he married Cynthia L. “Cindy” Hultz from Veedersburg, and she survives him.

Fred was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Kokomo, to the late Emmett and Dorothy (Clark) Bagwell. He graduated from Kokomo High School.

    Christine “Granny” “Mother Goose” Cornelia Ligon, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. She was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Baron Plain, Tenn., the daughter of the late Tommy and Laura (Turner) King. On July 21, 1934, Christine married Timothy Calvin Ligon Jr. and they were happily married until his passing on Nov. 3, 1956.
