— Ruth E. McCord, 85, Lafayette, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette, following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Edward N. and Olive E. (Goodyear) Gillespie.

She was in production at Delco Remy for 30 years and retired in 1985.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Ann (husband, Jeffrey) Hiatt, Chattanooga, Tenn., Christine J. (husband, Steven) Peppler, Lafayette, and Deborah Sue (husband, Jim) Newlon, Kokomo; two sisters, Virginia Gwaltney, Anderson, and Margaret Mayless, Arizona; two brothers, Harry L. Gillespie, Anderson, and Larry J. Gillespie, Florida; four grandchildren, Melissa McGeehon, Angela Hiatt, Jenny Newlon and Ryan Newlon; one great-grandson, Douglas Schnuth; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thelbert E. McCord on Oct. 3, 2001; three brothers, Edward Gillespie, Samuel Gillespie and John Gillespie; and two sisters, Helen Mollenkoff and Dorothy Mikesell.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, with Ned Clark officiating. The burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
