Floyd ‘Boono’ Sewell

Oct. 10, 1934 - Feb. 16, 2013

— Floyd “Boono” Sewell, 78, Kokomo, died at 3:43 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Lafayette, the son of Floyd Albert and Lela Geneva (Oilar) Sewell. On Dec. 7, 1956, in Kokomo he married Carolyn Ancil, who survives.

Floyd was a 1953 graduate of Northwestern High School, where he ran track and played basketball. He attended Ball State University and Hillsdale College and earned a degree in industrial engineering. He retired as a contract engineer in 1998 and sold real estate for Joe Pencek.  

He was a member of Crossroads Community Church and the YMCA. He attended Huddle as a table leader. He traveled around the country regularly for the Senior Olympics Basketball team. He loved the Lord, his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending all of their sporting events. He was also an avid IU basketball fan.

Floyd is survived by his wife Carolyn, Kokomo; children, Steve (Cindy) Sewell, Kokomo, Bob (Deana) Sewell, Kokomo, Julie (Kirk) Gillam, Pawleys Island, S.C., and Dave (Jenny) Sewell, Kokomo; grandchildren, Lauren Sewell, Lindsey Sewell, Lainey Sewell, Ben (Melissa) Sewell, Zach Sewell, Josh (Vanessa) Lindley, Nick Lindley, Whitney Lindley, Derek Gillam, Abby (Patrick) Davis, Carly Gillam, Megan (Hales) Swift, Maddie (Justin) Eades and Molly Sewell; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Sewell, Jeremiah Sewell, Brody Davis and Lindy Swift; brother, Danny (Shelby) Sewell, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Pat Sewell and Janet Sewell, both of Kokomo; brother-in-law, Ron Yamaoka, Hawaii; aunt, Margaret Oilar, Lafayette; several nieces and nephews; and adopted grandson, Dennis (Missy) Ehase.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Billy Sewell, Jack Sewell and Ron Sewell; and one sister, Carolyn Yamaoka.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Crossroads Community Church, U.S. 31 and 26, with Pastor Jeff Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road.
