Lota M. Steelman

Sept. 18, 1910 - Feb. 17, 2013

— Lota M. Steelman, 102, Kokomo, passed away at 6:12 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born Sept. 18, 1910, in Howard County to the late James and Maude (McClain) Wyrick. Lota attended Haworth High School before marrying Russell Steelman on Sept. 25, 1926. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Lota was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing Skip Bo, traveling internationally, especially in England, working outside keeping a garden and sewing.  

Lota is survived by four great-nieces, Jill (Greg) Ratcliff, Theresa Harvey, Susan (Roger) Healton and Joy Jackson; and three great-nephews, Jeff (Candy) Smith, Garee (Charlotte) McKee and Mark (Lisa) McKee.

Lota was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell Steelman; three sisters; one brother; two nieces; and a nephew.

There will be a funeral service for Lota at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. with Pastors Keith Treadway and Bill Carmichael officiating. Lota’s friends and family are welcome to join for a time of visitation from noon to 2 p.m. that same day, also at the mortuary.
