Patricia Aneta (Swicegood) Parish, 85, Kokomo, passed away at 11:34 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. She was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Weaubleau, Mo., to William Earl and Mollie Fay (Brookshire) Swicegood. On April 15, 1949, she married George Wesley “Wes” Parish Jr., who preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1992.
Patty graduated from Weaubleau High School in 1944 and attended business school in Springfield, Mo. She later worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo., Bankers Life Insurance in Des Moines, Iowa, JC Penney Co., Kokomo, and as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Kokomo. She retired from Delco Electronics, Kokomo, in 1989.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, South Gate Chapter, Des Moines, Iowa, and First Congregational Christian Church, Kokomo. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and she also enjoyed needlework, painting, gardening and was an avid reader.
Patty is survived by her daughter, Martha “Marty” Menges and husband Bill; daughter, Ruth Anne Cottrell; son, Jonathan Matthew “Matt” Parish; granddaughter, Molly Gilbert and husband Kyle; grandson, Bart Cottrell and wife Tabitha; granddaughter, Lacy Parish; four stepgranddaughters, Juliana Patty and husband Keith, Sarah Imbierowicz and husband Bill, Andrea Showen and husband Kris, and Rachael Roberts and husband Mike; two great-grandchildren, Casey and Carter Cottrell; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacob Patty, Dorothy Patty, Marian Patty, William Imbierowicz, Thomas Imbierowicz, Samuel Imbierowicz, Andrew Imbierowicz, Emma Grace Showen, Jhett Showen, Jace Showen, Fallen Roberts, Quinn Roberts, Alexis Coose, Ben Kucholick and Kinsey Kucholick; her brother, Bill Swicegood, Leawood, Kan.; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Wes; three sisters, Dolores Vaughn, Leah Sharp and Nina McConnell; a brother, Bob Swicegood; and a stepgranddaughter, Brooke Kucholick.
Funeral services for Patty will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Jon Tice officiating. Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery, Weaubleau, Mo. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until time of service Monday at the mortuary.
