Ed Meadows, 75, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in his home in Kokomo. He was born April 11, 1937, in Howard County, the son of Clifford H. ‘Tim’ and Helen L. (Smith) Meadows. On Dec. 14, 1958, he married Mary Lou Beckom in Sharpsville, and she survives him.
Ed was a 1954 graduate of Sharpsville High School and attended Indiana University at Kokomo. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1959. He was a tooling engineer at Delco Electronics and retired in 1992 after 38 years of service. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa-Beta Nu, Moose Lodge #178, AmVets Post 91, American Legion Post 46, Eagles, Naphtali Lodge #389, and Eastern Star #108. He enjoyed fishing and spending summers at their cottage on the Tippecanoe River near Buffalo. He also loved wintering in Rockledge, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Greg Sumpter, Greentown; daughter, Lori Horner, Greentown; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Penny Meadows, Eaton Rapids, Mich.; son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Julie Meadows, Kokomo; grandchildren, Jeremy Sumpter, Brandon (Michelle) Sumpter, Sara Horner, Wesley Horner, Brittany (Matt) Schmeltzer, Katelyn (David) Rathbun, Troy (Sara) Meadows, Justin Meadows, Nicholas Meadows, Michael Meadows; great-grandchildren, Sophia Meadows, Elijah Rathbun; step great-grandchildren, Ashton Young, Cameron Young; and brother, Tom (Joan) Meadows. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Jacob Meadows.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Guardian Angel Hospice.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Following the calling, a Phi Delta Kappa service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. According to his wishes, his ashes will be scattered in the Tippecanoe River in the spring.
