Marjorie C. Nicholas, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 2 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born June 28, 1922, in Howard County, to the late William F. and Mary E. (Kepner) Kinney. On Jan. 23, 1946, in Kokomo, she married Vestal R. Nicholas; he preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1973.
After graduating from high school, she graduated from the Indiana Business College with an associate degree. She had worked at the Kokomo Center Schools from 1967 and retiring in 1985, where she was a secretary. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Rosary Society, daughters of Isabella of which she was a past regent, Clay 49ers, Kokomo Center Schools School Belles and World Organization of China Painting.
Surviving are seven children and spouses: daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Roger Leep, Kokomo; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Dave Melville, Lafayette; son and daughter-in-law John V. and Pam Nicholas, Kokomo; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Richard Kanable, Kokomo; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Michael Kuhn, Kokomo; daughter Karen Nicholas, Lafayette; and son and daughter-in-law Jim and Shelly Nicholas, Kokomo. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jeanne Roush, Michigan, and Mary Ellen Fenn, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert Kinney and James Richard Kinney.
A Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Father Theodore C. Dudzinski officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., where a rosary service will be recited at 4:30 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either St. Patrick Catholic Church or to St. Patrick or St. Joan of Arc schools, envelopes will be provided Sunday at the mortuary and Monday at the church.
