Danny “Joe” Lawhead, 46, Kokomo, passed away at 9:12 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Howard Regional Health System. He was born on Oct. 1, 1965, to the late David and surviving Linda (Nebergall) Lawhead in Robinson, Ill. On Sept. 23, 2011, Joe married Brooke (Hammer) Lawhead in Kokomo. Brooke survives.
Joe graduated from Western High School in 1984. He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a security specialist. He then worked for Chrysler for more than 19 years. Joe served as the trustee at United Auto Workers Local 685 for six years, as well as the vice president of the union’s veterans committee. He was also a member of Westside Baptist Church and Indian Heights Baptist Church, as well as the United Way.
Joe really enjoyed his family and friends and spending time in the Russiaville little league with his children. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting with his brother and late father, collecting antiques and going to garage sales.
Surviving are his spouse, Brooke Lawhead; mother, Linda Lawhead; three children, Derek Lawhead and close friend, Jenna, Kokomo, Alexis Lawhead and fiance, David Phillips, Kokomo, and Carley Lawhead, Kokomo; one stepson, Zaiden Harris; one brother, Dennis Lawhead, Robinson, Ill.; two sisters, Dianna (Brian) Nation, Kokomo, and Deanna Lawhead, Kokomo, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, David Lawhead, and mother of the children, Tonya Lawhead.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Minister Steve Cole officiating. Entombment with military rites by the Air Force and the Kokomo Military Rites team will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
