Gary Edward “Cookie” Cook, 56, Poca City, Okla., passed away July 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was born Nov. 11, 1955, the son of the late Leonard (Edd) Cook and Janice L. Cook. Gary grew up in Kokomo and attended Jefferson and Meridian elementary schools, Elwood Haynes Middle School and Kokomo High School.
Gary truly enjoyed playing baseball for Coca-Cola at Eastside Little League. Gary went into the U.S. Air Force in 1977. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he met his wife, Vivian (Lane) Cook. They were married inn Vacaville, Calif., on April 7, 1979. They had a daughter Lane Cook on Aug. 15, 1996.
Gary worked for Timec Inc. in California as a general foreman for oil refineries. In 2005, Gary transferred to Conoco Phillips and started a maintenance contract in Ponca City, Okla.
Gary was baptized in Kokomo at Main Street Methodist June of 1972 and attended St. Luke’s Nazarene Church in Ponca City, Okla. While living in Vacaville, Calif., he was a Mason and Shriner at Vacaville Lodge No. 38. Gary enjoyed watching and going to many sporting events. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Oklahoma City Thunder, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.
In August of 2007, Gary was diagnosed with liver failure and put on a transplant list. He finally received a new liver on Nov. 14, 2009. In June of 2012, Gary’s liver started to reject.
Gary had many loyal friends whom he cherished.
Survivors include his loving wife, Vivian Cook, Ponca City, Okla.; daughter, Jessica Cook, Ponca City, Okla.; mother, Janice Cook Moeller, Kokomo; brother, Michael (Roberta) Cook, Monticello; sisters, Debra Lynch and Jana (Vernon) Weesner, Kokomo; stepsister, Penny (Danny) Shelton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard (Edd) Cook; stepfather, Ed Moeller; father-in-law, Arthur Lane, and mother-in-law, Kyo Lane.
A celebration of life for Gary will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Fellowship Church, 202 E. Jefferson St., Kokomo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vivian so she and Jessica Cook can afford to attend the celebration with family in Kokomo.
