Donald W. Farrington, 83, Kokomo, passed away at 7:18 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital. Donald was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Kokomo, to the late Walter S. and Cora (Carter) Farrington. He was a 1948 graduate of Kokomo High School. He joined the U.S. Army, then went to work at Continental Steel for 32 years before retiring in 1980. His marriage to the former Betty L. Lytle, who preceded him in death, was Aug. 26, 1950. Donald attended First Baptist Church of Kokomo and was a member of American Legion Post 6. He loved golfing and received many awards from local, state and national tournament victories. He was a great golfer. One of his golfing buddies referred to him as a legend.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Havens (Daniel), Marilyn Phillips (Joe); a sister, Lavelle Lawman (Willie); four grandchildren, Nicholas Phillips (Stefanie), Holly Adams (Josh), Cameron Havens (Carah), and Lyndsie Havens, Erica Havens-Brehm; one great-grandson and six great-granddaughters with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cora Farrington; four brothers; five sisters; and two grandsons, Adam Daniel Havens and Brett Austin Havens.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Services will follow at 1 p.m. at the mortuary with Pastor Warren Purcell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo Military Rites team at the cemetery. Contributions in Donald’s memory may be made to American Heart Association or Southern Care Hospice. Envelopes will be provided at the mortuary.
