Monica Covert Lawrence, 54, Kokomo, went to be one of God’s angels at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She died peacefully at home with her mother and brother, Michael, by her side.
She will be sadly missed by family and all who knew her. She is survived by her mother, Matilda Stickley, Kokomo; father, Richard Covert, Brandon Fla.; brothers, Michael, Kokomo, Gregory, Anthony and Timothy, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; sister, Melony Vasho, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; half sister, Carla Padillo, Brandon, Fla.; aunt and uncle, Steve and Sally Walther.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Melinda Lawrence; grandmother and grandfather, Virginia and Clarence Walther; uncle, Jeffery Walther; and a nephew, Kirby Lawrence.
Monica spent most of her life working in the medical field and enjoyed helping others. She retired from Metropolitan Life in 1998, when she became disabled. She also did some modeling in the Tampa area. Monica worked as an office manager in a clinic for the needy in Clearwater, Fla. She had a good heart and would help anyone in need.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Robin Wentworth Mayer officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., also on Monday, or the start of the funeral service. A private burial will be in Springdale Cemetery, Bunker Hill.
