Jean Carr, 94, Tipton and formerly of North Vernon, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Tipton. She was born May 21, 1918 in Madison County, to Ray and Lue (Richwine) Gage. On Feb. 14, 1940, she married James Carr, and he preceded her in death Oct. 24, 2000.
She is survived by two children, J. Bruce Carr, M.D., and wife Charlotte, Columbus, Ga., Ann Miller and husband Jack, Tipton; nine grandchildren, Thad Miller and wife Paige, Zach Miller and wife Emily, Abigail M. Dickerson and husband Matt, Alisa Carr, Suzanne Newton, Nathan Carr, Jenny Carr, Jake Carr and Gage Carr; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Ila Jean Gage, Aroma.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Gage and Bruce Gage, and one sister, Barbara Gage.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton, with the Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, with a wake service at 4 p.m.
