Norman William “Bill” Ormsby

Norman William “Bill” Ormsby, 81, Kokomo, died 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born July 22, 1925, in Kokomo, to Charles F. and Katherine B. (Dwyer) Ormsby. He married Mary E. (Coon) Ormsby on Jan. 19, 1985.

He had been employed by Sinclair Refining Co., Kingston Products, Haynes-Stellite, and for 23 years with Cosco Inc., Columbus. His last position was vice president and controller until 1977, when he returned to Kokomo

He attended St. Patrick School, and Kokomo High School where he graduated in 1943, University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1949 cum laude having majored in accounting and finance. He also attended special courses at Wabash College, University of Missouri, and law school at Notre Dame.

In high school he enjoyed sports; basketball, and baseball. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He had been president of Bartholomew County Welfare Board, served the Red Cross, Junior Achievement, Girl Scouts Drive, D.A.V. and was a member of St. Patrick Church. He was instrumental in the old Johnson home, now being the Apollo Club of Howard Regional Health Services.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, with whom he enjoyed retirement and spent 13 winters in Phoenix, where they attended thoroughbred horse racing several days a week. Also surviving are two children, daughter, Constance Mitchell, Columbus; son, Matthew and Christine Ormsby, Cottonwood, Calif.; sister, Mary and Del Marquand, Kokomo; and brother, Mark and Marilyn Ormsby, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, C.T. “Pat” Ormsby; and a sister, Ann Tull.

A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 320 W. Broadway, with the Rev. Father Ted Dudzinski officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel.     Helen Louise Brown, 85, Kokomo, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. She was the daughter of Edna and George Seitz, Walkerton. On Dec. 19, 1948, at Walkerton Methodist Church, she married Milton Brown, who survives. Helen and Milt were married for more than 63 years.

    Mary Edith (Knight) Ratcliff, 93, Kokomo, died at 11:11 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at her home, where she had been cared for by her family. She was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Clinton County. She was one of three daughters born to the late Evert and Edith (Finney) Knight. On July 4, 1939, she married Chester Ratcliff who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1977.
