Harold E. “Whitey” Landgrave, 82, Kokomo, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, in North Woods Village, Kokomo. He was born July 2, 1927, in Peru, to Daniel and Beulah (Kessler) Landgrave.
After being preceded in death by his second wife, he married Mary Smith on March 17, 1984, in Blytheville, Ark. He served in the Merchant Marines, now a branch of the Coast Guard, during World War II. He retired in 1997 after 47 years of service working in machine repair for Chrysler. He was a member of the Eagles 255 and UAW Local 685. He was an avid Cubs and NASCAR fan. He loved mushroom hunting.
Along with his wife Mary, Harold is survived by his son, Edward and wife Cathy Landgrave, Kokomo; three daughters, Sharon and husband Rick Malinowski, Mich., Sandi and husband John Smith, Kokomo, and Sherrie and husband Wayne Francey, Fort Wayne; a stepson, Danny Williams; four stepdaughters, Beverly and husband Dan Sable, Kathy and husband Ron Addler, Crawfordsville, Donna and husband Paul Knight, Lafayette, and Shari and husband Kirk Harrington, Crawfordsville; a sister, Harriett Moore; a brother, Cecil and wife Joyce Landgrave; 16 grandchildren, Tammy Hord, Kim McHaney, Christie Younis, Lisa Nigbor, Melissa Malinowski, Beth Hollis, Ginger Davis, Michelle Livingston, Johnny Smith, Jason Francey, Michael Francey, A.J. Hedge, Stephanie Hedge, Travis Harrington, Jarrod Harrington, and Sharlotte Harrington; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services for Harold are 11 a.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster St. Chapel. Rev. Ken Spangler will officiate. Entombment with military honors performed by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the mortuary.
