Emma Ruth Shane, 97, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Century Villa Healthcare.

Emma Ruth was born in Grant County to Thomas and Mary (Main) McCan, and they preceded her in death. She married Ted Shane on Aug. 12, 1933, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1989.

She worked at Delco Electronics in Kokomo from 1955 to 1974 when she retired. She lived in the Greentown area for 66 years, and was involved with Seniors on the Move. For over 50 years she was a member of Antioch Christian Church. She was also a member of Greentown Wesleyan Church, and Home Economics Club of Howard County. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano for many years. She was known at Century Villa as the “Quilt Lady” and made over 100 quilts by hand.

Survivors include sons Paul (Myrna) Shane, Columbus, Earl (Laura) Shane, Greentown; daughter Ellen (Rex) Geiger, Jimmerson Lake; brother Thomas M. (Annabelle) McCan, Anderson; daughter-in-law, Rose Shane, Kokomo; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son, Kenneth; and daughter, Lois Anna.

Visitation is 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Home, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, and also 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Century Villa Chapel, 725 N. Meridian St., Greentown. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Monday, at Century Villa Chapel, 725 N. Meridian St., Greentown, with Rev. Paul Boss, Rev. Larry Maddox, and Chaplain John O’Brien officiating. Burial is at Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
