Charles J. ‘Joe’ Young

Charles J. “Joe” Young, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 4 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Primrose Retirement Community. Joe was born Oct. 10, 1920, to the late John E. and Nellie G. (Brewer) Young. Joe’s first marriage was to Betty J. Massey and his second marriage was to Opal V. Bocock, both of whom preceded him in death. He was employed by Haynes International for 36 years before retiring, then worked in the sheriff department for 14 years before retiring. He returned for three years to monitor the in-home divison as a probation officer. He was a veteran of World War II serving two terms, recieving a purple heart, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, two bronze stars and the Good Conduct Award, and was also a prisoner of war. He was a scout master for the Boy Scouts, had a Silver Beaver award, a member of the Scotish Rite Association of Indianaoplis, and a member of the Sheriff’s Association also a member of the VFW Post 1152.

Survivors include four sons, Joseph L. Young and wife Sharon, Joseph’s first wife Marcia preceded him in death, Steven M. Young and wife Cindy, Max L. Young and wife Pamela, and Dale Bocock; two daughters, Susan G. Young, and Pandora S. Miller, a brother Donald R. Young and wife Mary Ellen; a sister, Helen L. Snow and husband Standly Parks Snow; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and a lifelong friend Vernal Baugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Mamie (Lunger) Young; daughter Carolyn Mack; brother Harold Raymond Young; and two sisters, Josephine M. Young and Thelma Tomlinson.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., with Rev. Ruth Lawson officiating. Burial is at Albright Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary. A Masonic service is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the visitation. There will full military rites preformed by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo Military Rites Team at the cemetery.

    William M. “Bill” Sutton Sr., 94, Tipton, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor. He was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Matthews, to Omar and Tessie Mae (Cunningham) Sutton. On Jan. 12, 1944, he married Mae Ritenour and she survives.

    David Jermaine Jackson, 38, Kokomo, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital. David was born Feb. 18, 1973, the son of Nathaniel Stiggers and Clemtine Jackson, in Lima, Ohio. He was employed as an assembler at Bona Vista. He was a member of Great Faith Ministries and loved the Lord. He was a longtime karate student, having achieved the status of green belt, and was an avid bowler. He loved basketball and was a longtime participant in Special Olympics. He also attended the social club sponsored by the Mental Health Association of Howard County.

Mrs. Squibb was born March 2, 1948, in Orange County, to Robert Dale and Mary Marguerite (Knowles) Owen and lived in Knox for six years, coming from Sharpsville. On Dec. 13, 1986, in Burlington, she was married to the Rev. Ray Squibb, who survives.
