Jeanette Ruth Douglas, 99, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 18, 2009, at The Waters of Yorktown.

She was born June 13, 1910, in Greentown, the daughter of Harvey and Carrie (Trott) Street. She graduated from Greentown High School in 1928 where she was active as a pianist for the school orchestra and other musical groups. After graduation she worked as a clerk in her father’s grocery and meat market. In 1935 she married Russell R. Douglas. Jeanette was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, a life member of Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Omega National Sorority and was past Worthy Matron of O.E.S. Greentown Chapter 195.

Survivors include three nieces, Julia Carpenter, Ft. Wayne, Maxine Steppat, Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Joann Acquisti, Bloomfield Hills, Mich; six cousins, Dea Swan, Eva Cheek, Ada Middlesworth, and Don Cranor, all of Greentown, Helen Scott, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jean Gallamore, Anderson; special friends and neighbors who cared for her with love, Alva Taylor, Carolyn (Toni) Rowray, and Helen and Richard Hoops.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell R. Douglas, and a son, Dexter S. Douglas.

Services are 10 a.m. today at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Robert Hunt Layman and Wesley Strauch officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time today at the mortuary.
