Samuel D. Sommers, 77, Amboy, passed away at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. He was born in Howard County on Nov. 18, 1932, the son of Monroe and Effie Horner Sommers. Sam married Thanet Allen in Amboy on June 5, 1960, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Thanet, is a son, Mitch Sommers, and his wife Kim, Peru; a daughter, Rose Brown, and her husband John, Peru; grandchildren Michael Sommers, Kirstyn Sommers, Curtis Brown and Eric Brown; sisters Elaine Rich and husband Ron, Bluffton, Ohio, and Emma Richards and husband Rev. Joe, Goshen; brothers Daniel Sommers and wife Marge, Converse, and Elvin Sommers and wife Barb, Greentown.
A service celebrating the life of Samuel D. Sommers is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy, with Rev. Joe Richards and Rev. Glenn Horner officiating. Burial is at Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
