Mercedes E. Wells, 85, Kokomo, went to be with the Lord at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Windsor Estates.
She was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Kenneth James and Jennie C. (Lacroix) Kennedy. On Feb. 7, 1953, in Marion, she married Kenneth M. Wells, who preceded her in death on March 30, 2009.
She was a 1943 graduate of Marion High School. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was well-known for her artistic endeavors and enjoyed sharing her talent of art with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth R. Wells and his wife Nancy of Kokomo, Debbie Wright and her husband Robert F. of Greentown, Kathy Harris and her husband Timothy of Kokomo, Linda Beavers and her husband John of Riverview, Fla., Cindy Romanchuk and her husband Chris of Duluth, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Kristie Barney and her husband Tim, Amber Wells, Sandy Stout and her husband Kevin, Sabrina Harris, Daniel Beavers, Jessica Beavers, Bailey Romanchuk, Dana Romanchuk; one step-grandson, Robert M. Wright; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Kennedy and his wife Dorthea of Marion, Kenneth V. Kennedy of Elkhart, Phillip Kennedy of Fort Wayne; one sister, Harriette Kennedy of Marion; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Fr. Ted Dudzinski the celebrant. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and at 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. A Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.

Dana George Askren, 61, Windfall and formerly of Kokomo, Tipton and Mount Vernon, Ky., died early Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at his residence. He was born Aug. 27, 1950, in Elwood to George M. and Margaret (Ogden) Askren. He married Judith Faye Bradshaw in 1975.

Donald R. Jerrels, Sr., 75, Peru, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo. He was born April 23, 1936, in Dugger, to James and Mary (Buckner) Jerrels. On Nov. 20, 1989, he married Marcia Miller, and she survives.

William J. Buchmiller, 87, Clearwater, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, under the loving care of his family and hospice. He was born March 23, 1924, in Greenville, Ill., and lived most of his life in Kokomo.

David Gibson Beard
David Gibson Beard, 64, Kokomo passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 15, 1947, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Samuel and Claudia (Walker) Gibson. He was one of three sons born to this union, including Samuel Jr. and Devere. After the death of their parents and grandparents, the boys were adopted by Earl Nathan and Gladie Lee Beard, Kokomo.

Mabel Berniece Shaw, 97, Greentown, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Century Villa Nursing Home, Greentown. Berniece was born in Cyclone on Nov. 1, 1914, to the late William and Margaret Benge. She married Alton Leroy Show on April 6, 1933, in Kokomo. Alton preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2003.
