Willie Lee Dilworth Ambrose

Nov. 9, 1929 - Dec. 22, 2009

Willie Lee Dilworth Ambrose, 80, Peru, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Wayne. The daughter of Ananias and Nancy (White) Walton, she was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Nettleton, Miss. Her nickname was “Blackie.”

Willie was united in holy matrimony on Dec. 6, 1946, to Rommie Dilworth and separated in 1951. In 1960, she met a dearly loving longtime companion, Webster Lee Ambrose, who passed away Dec. 5, 2007.

Willie was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed going fishing and gardening with her companion, Webster, before his passing. Willie watched CNN unless her game shows were on. She would get up and watch “The Price is Right,” then her favorite soap operas, “The Young and The Restless,” and “The Bold and The Beautiful.” In the evening, she enjoyed “Wheel of Fortune,” and “Jeopardy.” She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame football. She professed her faith in Christ at an early age.

She leaves to cherish her memory her five daughters, Catherine “Powe” Dilworth, Evelyn Raysor (Lawrence), Indianapolis, Carolyn Sanders (Anthony), Montgomery, Ala., Tammy Wilson (Joel), Tonyia Ware, Peru; six sons, Bobby Dilworth (Shirley), Grand Rapids, Mich., John Dilworth (Donna), Ruben Dilworth, Rex Ambrose (Rebecca), Gregory Ambrose (Andrea), all of Peru, Steve Ambrose (Ronda), Logansport; three brothers, Josiah “Billy” Walton, Holly “Joe” Walton, and James “Shorty” Walton, all of Peru; four half-brothers, Michael, Harold, Steve and Glenn Walton, all of Amory, Miss.; four sisters, Alberta Wilson, Henrietta Lee (Jimmie), Cora Springer (Gilbert), Gennie Terry, all of Peru; three half-sisters, Janice Walton (Wright), Carol Walton, and Shandra Walton (Wiley), all of Mississippi; 26 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; twin great-grandchildren expected next summer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ananias and Nancy Walton; three brothers, John “Jack” Walton, Ananias Walton Jr., and Walter “Munk” Walton; one sister, Mary “Flukie” Walton; one son-in-law, Lamar Ware Jr.; one grandson, Tylon L. Dilworth; one brother-in-law, Richard Wilson; and one stepsister, Jerlyne Manuel.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Chapel Church, 915 S. Broadway, Peru, with Pastor Robert Foard officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service Wednesday at Zion Church Chapel.

Arrangements are entrusted to Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
