Christine E. Lareau

July 7, 1942 - Feb. 14, 2013

— Christine E. Lareau, 70, Flora, died at 7:07 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. She was born in Bad Axe, Mich., July 7, 1942, to the late Benjamin Earle and Margaret Helen (Cook) Railer.

She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Burlington Church of Christ in the early 1950s. Christine graduated from Burlington High School in 1960 and attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary, where she met Jerry P. Lareau. They married on Oct. 18, 1969, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Christine worked as an editor at Standard Publishing for the young Christians’ weekly magazine STRAIGHT for several years in Cincinnati before moving to Flora in the mid-1970s. She also worked as a grammar/style instructor for the Writers’ Digest correspondence course for more than a decade, starting in the late 1980s. Christine was a homemaker and also home-schooled their three children at various grade levels during the 1980s and 1990s. She also worked as a freelance editor and writer, starting with her time at Standard Publishing and continuing until the last few years of her life.

Christine is survived by her husband; a son, Michael P. Lareau; a son and his wife, Gregory S. and Nikki L. (Brinkman) Lareau, and Nikki’s two children, Calvin A. and Coral J. Watkins; a daughter and her husband, Jennifer J.B. and Matthew A. Amonett, and their two children, Emily N. and Carter M. Amonett; a sister, Margaret A. Parker, and her family; a brother and his wife, Leslie E. and Mary Railer, and their family; and a brother and his wife, David L. and Tina A. (Freeman) Railer, and their family.

A private memorial service was held for family and select family friends at Burlington Church of Christ on Saturday, with the Rev. David Osborne officiating. Interment was later at Burlington Cemetery. Stout & Son Funeral Home, Neptune Chapel, Burlington, assisted the family.
