Irene Maxey, 98, Tipton, died Monday, April 16, 2012. Irene was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Gallatin, Tenn. On July 30, 1933, she married Tucker Butler Maxey, and he preceded her in death on April 10, 1980.
She was a housekeeper, retiring in 1994 at the age of 80. Irene was a member of West Street Christian Church and Women’s Democratic Club.
Irene is survived by five children, Willie Neil Burk, Tipton, Charles E. Maxey, Tipton, Tony L. Maxey and wife Marlene, Carmel, Donna J. Austin, Tipton, and Timothy W. Maxey and special friend Vicki, Elkhart; one daughter-in-law, Christine Maxey Holley, Goshen; and 14 grandchildren.
She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elna Dee Drullinger; and a special friend, Romelle Jones.
She was preceded in death by one son, James W. Maxey; daughter-in-law, Rosie Maxey; son-in-law, James Austin; two sisters, Barbara Wood and Mable Eads; two brothers, Layton Cherry and Freed Cherry; and one granddaughter, Melody Lynn Jordan.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at West Street Christian Church, Tipton, with the Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, all at the church.
