Kokomo — Carl S. Mitchel, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Fairmont Rehabilitation Center. Carl was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Amboy, to the late Howard Mitchel and Thelma (Deardorff) Mitchel. He married the former Nancy James on Nov. 11, 1950, and she preceded him in death in 1993.
He worked at Haynes International, retiring in 1986. He was a soldier of The Salvation Army and loved to build, fix and repair things.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Mitchel and wife Toby; a daughter, Janet Mitchel, sister, Delores Burnsworth; two sisters-in-law, Leona Mitchel and Altha Mitchel; three grandchildren, Bridget, Eric and Bryan Mitchel; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Mitchel; four brothers, Kenneth, Wayne, Ray and John Mitchel; a brother-in-law, George Burnsworth; and a sister-in-law, Sara Lee Mitchel.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, with Major David W. Moffitt officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
