Elijah Michael Johnson passed away at 2:01 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Howard Regional Hospital. Elijah Michael Johnson was born on Sept. 13, 1945, the son of Henry Mitchell Johnson and Marie Johnson in Charleston, S.C.
He was retired from the IRS, where he held the position of supervisor. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a volunteer throughout the state. He loved computers, was an avid reader and enjoyed television and camping. He also enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Johnson; son, Christopher E. Johnson (Joanna), Indianapolis; daughter, Carla R. Jackson; sister, Betty Cockerham, Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle E. Johnson-Ellers; six sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Pastor Louis Parham will be the officiant and eulogist.
Friends may call from noon until the service Saturday at the church.
