Stanley Eugene Smith

Kokomo — Stanley Eugene Smith, 88, Monticello, died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. He was born May 24, 1924, to Joe and Letha (Bayes) Smith in Terre Haute. On Nov. 28, 1947 he married Bonnie Creamer, who survives.

Stanley lived in Terre Haute and Kokomo prior to moving to Monticello, where he lived most of his life. He received his G.E.D. from Chrysler Corp. in 1969 and received an honorable mention at his daughter Sandra’s graduation. He served from March 19, 1943 to Feb. 7, 1946 in Patton’s Army during World War II, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Stanley worked as an inspector for Chrysler in Kokomo for 29 years, retiring in 1983. He loved fishing at Oakdale Dam, and won the “Big Fish” contest from the Indianapolis Star. He enjoyed playing golf with his wife, Bonnie, son, Larry, and others. Stanley made two hole-in-ones at Pond View and Pine View Golf Courses. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and former member of the Moose Lodge.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Larry Smith, Monticello; daughter, Sandy Bailey, Greenfield; grandchildren, Joe Smith, Monticello, Kimberly Smith, Monticello, Michael Bailey, Greenfield, and Ashley Bailey, Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jaden, Alex and Tory Smith, and Gracey Bailey; brothers, Fred Smith and Jack Smith, Monticello; sister, Zonia Woods, Sun City, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Vivian Smith and Betty Leep, Kokomo; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Chism; brothers, Frank, Edward and Paul Smith; infant sister, Dorothy Smith; infant brother, Richard Smith; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Smith.

Funeral Services were held Oct. 25 at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello.

Memorials may be given to the wishes of the donor. Envelopes will be available at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home at 6368 E. U.S. 24 in Monticello.
