Gerald E. Garrison, Logansport, passed away at 5:18 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in his home, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and multiple strokes. Born Feb. 8, 1946, in Cass County, he was the son of the late Doyle E. and Mary E. Roller Garrison. On Dec. 20, 1970, in Kokomo, he was married to Rose Ann (Elson) Garrison, who survives.
A 1964 graduate of Pioneer High School, Gerald went on to study education, earning his master of science degree from Ball State University. He student taught at Columbia Middle School and taught history at Lincoln Middle School for 32 years, retiring in 2001.
Gerald was a devoted member of Webb Chapel United Methodist Church. As a missionary with Gideons International, he shared his faith with many area congregations. He truly “walked the walk” – saving the lost through personal witnessing and the distribution of God’s Word.
Gerald was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cass County Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed traveling, bicycling and playing basketball. He was the essence of a loving husband, father and grandfather whose greatest pleasure in life was being with his family.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Ann Higgins and her husband Jon, Roann, and Julie Marie Zeigler and her husband Matt, Logansport; two sons, Johnathan Garrison, New York, N.Y., and Jeffrey Garrison and wife Aimee, Kokomo; seven grandchildren, Micah Higgins, Malachi Higgins, Millie Grace Higgins, Jacob Zeigler, Kaylyn Zeigler, Hannah Zeigler and Leah Rose Zeigler; his mother-in-law, Betty Elson, Kokomo; one brother-in-law, Jim Justice and his wife Diane, Delphi; one niece, Kim Justice, Baytown, Texas; and two nephews, Mark Justice and his wife Kathy, and Brian Justice, all of Delphi.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Kay Louise Justice.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Webb Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Bergstrom officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International. You may light a candle of hope, share condolences in his guestbook and view his video tribute at www.fisherfuneralchapel.com.
