— Maxine A. (Schuering) Swain, 81, Kokomo, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Sycamore Village, Kokomo. She was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Quincy, Ill., the daughter of George and Florence (Hoffman) Schuering. On Jan. 31, 1951, in Quincy, Ill., she married Robert C. Swain, who survives.
Maxine was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Quincy. She worked for Monte’s Fine Dining and Hills Department Store. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, reading and watching TV.
Surviving are her husband, Robert, Kokomo; five daughters, Ann (Harvey) Phillips, Kokomo, Cindy (Rod) Vaughn, Muncie, Cheryl (John) McMahon, Indianapolis, Sandra Swain, Kokomo, and Mary (Dane) St. Clair, Kokomo; one son, Kevin (Trudy) Swain, Yorktown; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed (Carolyn) Schuering and Don (Carol) Schuering, all of Quincy, Ill.; one sister, Madelyn O’Brien, Edina, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, with the Rev. Father David Huemmer as the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
