Richard D. Barker, 81, rural Roann, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Miller’s Merry Manor East in Wabash. He was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Howard County, to Russell and Vivian (Evans) Barker.
Dick was a 1947 Clay Township, Howard County, high school graduate. He married Jean Barker in Galveston on May 1, 1948. He was a self-employed contractor and also farmed. He moved to the Roann area in 1958, coming from Kokomo.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Barker, Roann; two children, Jennifer (Ron) McColley, Roann, Richard Kraig Barker, Lagro; four grandchildren, Michael (Kandi) Barker, Macy, Julie (Steve) Coffman, Warsaw, Steven (Teri) Barker, Batesville, and Jodie (Mike) Coffman, Roann; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Mark Barker, who died April 10, 1970; and three brothers, Max, George, and Walter Barker.
Graveside services and burial were Saturday in the Roann Community Cemetery, with Pastor Brad Eckerly officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Barker, Steve Barker, Steven Coffman, Mike Coffman, Caleb Coffman, Evan Coffman, Jason Coffman, Justin Coffman, Aaron Barker, Austin Barker, Alec Barker, Jennifer Rose Barker. Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Roann Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
